September 23rd 2006 - Leeds United 3 Birmingham 2

With Blackwell gone I was hoping for a bit more excitement at Elland Road - I wasn't disappointed!

There was more movement, more shorter passing, some give and goes, a backheel or two and a generous sprinkling of decent chances for a change.

Healy looked bright and up for it - he was superb. His first goal was a great strike. He wanted the ball more than I ever seen him - he held it well and brought others into play. Derry played like a trojan in the middle - he did the work of 3 men - he had to as Lewis and Douglas were pretty much hopeless and Nicholls eased his way into the game.

At the back Butler was commanding for a change and despite Crainey's best efforts we managed to cope pretty well with a lively Birmingham team.

The football was a joy to watch at times and if Carver can put Lewis, Douglas and Crainey out of their misery then we could start to build a decent side.

So far so good considering we only had 8 men :-)

Goals: Healy outside of the foot curler into top corner, Healy pen after Horsefield tripped, OG after cross from Stone was about to be converted by the prolific Ian Moore!

Looked very nervous indeed.
Got forward when needed to and defended solidly
It's easy to criticise...so I will...he's fucking shite!
Despite being fat and slow had a great game at the back.
Progressing well and is now a permanent fixture in the team.
Here, there, everywhere.
Slow start but did improve. Jury out on him.
No idea how he became a pro footballer.

Now has no confidence to go with his zero pace and skill
A change in manager has given him a new lease of life
Not really at the races but won a penalty so did OK

Neat and tidy.

Made the winner after good work down the right.

Plenty of effort as usual

January 21th 2006 - Leeds United 3 Sheff Wednesday 0

First half was much like the rest of the season so far - woeful entertainment. Wednesday had come to stifle Leeds and it worked well for them. I can only remember about 3 chances - two that Gregan whalloped and a header that Douglas nudged back to their keeper. Wednesday had a cross-cum-shot that missed the far post and that was that. Boring as fuck!

2nd half Leeds stepped up a gear and Miller tried to get things moving. We soon slumped back to our usual crap until Healy replaced Blake who was marooned on the right. Wednesday had started to look like they believed they could win it and had massive scramble in the box with the ball cleared off the line. Thankfully Healy and Kelly started to work some magic down the right. A cross from Kells caused all sorts of problems and Butler thundered through his marker to head home after a neat pull back from Douglas.

One-nil in their Cup Final. The Leeds fans took the piss out of Wednesday's fans gay bouncy dance. Shall we do a dance for you? The Owls' heads twisted 180 degrees away from the pitch in embarrassment.

Cresswell, who up until then had not won a header, rammed home the second with a diving header from Kelly's corner. Game over. Cressie then fired home from close range after several neat passes from Walton, Lewis and Crainey.

3-0 was harsh on Wednesday but they were shite and never really threatened. I'm convinced Blackie's tactics now involve taking the first hour easy and then going for broke in the last half hour. It seems to work quite well but i'm sure we could batter these lesser teams for 90 mins and try and win by 6!

Kicking poor but solid otherwise
Last 30 mins went bombing forward and won us the game.
Garbage.
Did well and got the important 1st goal.
Surprisingly well for a fat lad who's been out for a few weeks
Sits too deep. Lost his form a bit of late.
Class.
Wasted out wide. Never got the ball.

The system doesn't suit his play, needs to hug the touchline.
Poor for 80 mins then scored two crackers.
Good energy but not quite good enough.

Last 10 mins did his usual headless chicken. Nice cross for the 3rd.

Had a good 25 mins. Worked well on the right with Kells

December 11th 2005 - Leeds United 0 Cardiff 1

We were shite, they played quite well without really threatening much.

Koumas ran the show for Cardiff and with Cooper on the right they hardly gave us a a kick in the middle of the park.

Not sure why Gregan was chosen ahead of Walton cos he's obviously got not pace and is a liability. Hardly surprising then when Koumas out paced fatty and The Pieman tripped him up 20 yards out. Koumas bent the free kick in easily with Sullivan nowhere.

It took Leeds about 70 mins to have any sort of meaningful attack (once Gregan had waddled off for his tea) - an equaliser would have been rough on Cardiff who were pretty solid all round. Their offside trap caught out Hulse many times and we had no craft to get round it.

All in all a woeful display which sums up our general play all season .. but somehow we are 4th? I just dont see how.

Poor positioning for the free kick, crap kicking again
Tried to get forward a bit 2nd half
Wank.
Slow and shite. Hoofs the ball when under no pressure.
Only player worth his wages this week.
One good pass, the rest of the time stood about pointing
Too good for us.
Wasted out wide.

Garbage today. We know he can do better. Played too narrow
Tried but looked slow and a bit weedy.
Waste of money. Too fat.

Should have put Walton on after his good game last week.

Ran about and looked interested. Had a shot! FFS!

Did Ok

November 05th 2005 - Leeds United 0 Preston North End 0
As dull a game as you could ever imagine.

The only thing that kept me going was that it couldn't get any worse and surely at some point Hulse or Healy would do something special and Leeds would maybe create a chance - let alone score a goal or force their keeper into a meaningful save.

It never happened. Why? Well we aren't a very good team and we dont have a very good manager. The Championship is so bad I shudder to think what the standard is like in the lower 2 leagues. I feel sorry for fans of clubs that support shite teams. I feel sorry for myself at the moment.

The pre-match started well and Blackwell put out probably his best XI on current form and ability. However he seems to have forgotten about tactics and a gameplan. What does he tell them to do? What does the coaching consist of? Answer : FUCK ALL!

First 10 minutes Liam Miller looked like the answer to all our problems - a creative midfielder. It is now clear that we aren't one player short of a team. We're a team away from a team. We need someone to get the players passing and moving. We stand about, play off the cuff and hope one of our better players will do something special like control the ball and pass it to a white shirt.

Miller's brief flirtation with the game ended abruptly and he never got the ball again after that. It just sailed over his head back and forth. Preston were utter garbage too - that was until the last 25 minutes when they suddenly realised how static we were and that they could pass and move through us. They could have won it when Nugent headed wide from 8 yards. They barely deserved it but it was a genuine chance and was 1 more than Leeds could muster all game.

What a load of fucking shite.

A couple of good takes from crosses and half attempts.
Poor crossing but defended OK
No composure at all. Hot potato Pete.
Didn't really have much to do (thank god)
Looks quite assured but his passing is wank.
Quite quiet for him but always gives the effort of 2 men
Brilliant for 2 minutes then nobody passed to him. Oh well.
He's a full back.

Not very good today - a winger that doesn't cross or beat a man. Hmmm
Looked well off the pace. Muscled out of things.
Anonymous. No service.

Another clueless and badly coached midfielder...zzzzzzzzz

Oh for fucks sake
Too fat for a footballer

August 20th 2005 - Leeds United 2 Wolves 0

Good win for Leeds. Under a lot of pressure 1st half but we held on and got a half time lead. We only had a couple of attacks in the first 45 mins and one fo those was a neatly taken goal by Lewis who swept in Richardson's cross that looked like it was meant for Hulse. Wolves were very good and look certainties for promotion. Miller was lively for them and only some smart defending from Butler and Gregan kept them at bay. Harding did OK at left back but he looks an accident waiting to happen. Impressed with Lewis on the left. He carries the ball well and looks a clever player.

Up front Hulse was always a threat and despite Blake having a shocker we got our 2nd goal when Hulse turned Lescott brilliantly and trickled the ball past the keeper.

Wolves took off Seol their best player up til then and Leeds were more comfortable. This was helped by Blake being replaced by new boy Douglas who looked reasonable for his 1st game.

The crowd sang for Healy but Ricketts came on and chants of "Ricketts for England" rang out as the donkey striker miscontrolled the ball when almost clean through. Healy did come on for the slightly disappointing Richardson and looked sharp on the right.

All in all a good solid display with Derry a real terrier in the middle, we still miss some creativity in the middle but that will come with time hopefully.

Pretty solid at the back - would still like more from him overlapping

Very impressive
Did very well for a fat pub team player!
Ran his heart out for the lads.
Good in the air but not great on the deck.
Not much confidence on the ball - needs some coaching.

Adds good balance to the team - neat player. Good goal too.
Class centre forward - strong, tall and good touch. Great goal.

More solid than Walton has been of late but stood off for their goal.
There is no substitute for quality and he has it.

Looked very good at the back.
No mobility but kept things solid in the middle
Not good enough I'm afraid
1st game for ages and did quite well. Good goal.

Bloody rubbish
Gave it his best shots but got very little support
Poor game - should have been subbed for Lennon but Blackie is blind.

Lasted 1 minute before got injured

Garbage.
Why bother so late?

April 2nd 2005 - Leeds United 1 Wolves 1

An pretty average game but with very few goal incidents. Ironically with lots of injuries Leeds probably put their best team out for ages. The midfield wih Derry and Seth in the middle looked half decent for once. Only problem was Lennon was playing in a silly role in the hole behind Hulse and it failed. Lennon got an award last month for best player in the league as a winger. Why move him?? Unbelievable.

We're still a long way short of being a promotion side as we dont seem to create any chances. On the plus side Marlon King did well on the left but not so sure about Ian Moore on the right. Looked poor but it was his debut so hopefully will improve.

February 26th 2005 - Leeds United 2 West Ham 1

Contrary to West Ham fans and their dopey manager we actually deserved to win this game. West Ham were for the first half the worst team we've seen this year (ok...maybe it was QPR's comic Danny Shittu defending that was the worse)

Had a Leeds striker actually got near one of the many crosses we put over we may have got a bagful in the first 45 mins. West Ham had 1 shot of note after 40 mins - WOW!

2nd half Leeds got a great goal - Lennon pushed it past 2 defenders and did them for pace. His near post cross was hooked into the net at 8 million miles an hour by Hulse. Top Bollocks!

Leeds, as usual, shat themselves when 1 up. They had no idea whether to sit back or continue to attack. They did neither and West Ham built up 20 mins of pressure that had to give. They did for 20 mins what we did for 60. So it was only just that with 5 mins to go Healy skipped past 2 defenders slipped the ball to the very bad haircut that is Shaun Derry - the tangled locks cut inside Repka with ease and fired the ball in for a super cool finish. A great debut!

Poor old West Ham, the game lasts 90 mins not 20.

January 29th 2005 - Leeds United 1 Brighton &HA 1

Slightly better than Derby but still quite a poor performance by Leeds.

Things looked good when Wright wasn't in the starting XI and Leeds played reasonably well in the first half. Einarsson made his full debut and did OK. He's not going to be a world beater but he tries hard and showed a reasonable touch.

4-5-1 or 4-3-3 whatever it is we play doesn't suit us at home. Deane was isolated and Healy not much use out wide on the left.

Just when it looked like 0-0 at half time Clarke Carlisle popped up with a scrappy goal from nowhere. Brighton were piss poor so it looked 3points in the bag.

2nd half Leeds started OK and Walton had a good chance but then we fell apart. Brighton grew in confidence and Blackie took Lennon off - out biggest (or littlest if you take height into account) threat.

Brighton did what Cardiff, Millwall and Forest did - they got an equaliser when we should have easily snuffed them out. Fair play to Brighton they deserved it but they are a crap team and we're not much better.

Bakke come on for the last 8 seconds to a very warm hand. Pity there was no time for him.

Highlight of the game was the Brighton keeper's pink top - that's how bad things are in this league.

I'm amazed how few clear chances are created in this team. If we make 3 chances a game its a miracle. Back to the drawing board Kev. Lets play it on the deck.

January 26th 2005 - Derby 2 Leeds United 0
Very poor performance by Leeds. Again no composure on the ball - just a big whack downfield to Ricketts who was woeful.

Derby played all the football and thoroughly deserved to win. Tommy Smith was superb and made Richardson look a fool at times. Our midfield were slow and disorganised and we were bypassed with ease.

Wright is now an embarrassment. Gregan tries but has no mobility. Pugh is not a midfielder. Joachim and Healy are strikers playing out wide and dont get the ball enough and dont track back very well.

The defence was solid enough but simply cant pass the ball unless its hoofed down the field.

January 15th 2005 - Leeds United 1 Cardiff 1

Thanks to the trains I missed the first 20 mins of the game which by all accounts was by far our best period. Unfortunately I only saw 2 shots of any note from Leeds. A swerving Walton effort in the 1st half that just went wide and a speculative long ranger from Richardson that went straight to the keeper.

So from what I saw Leeds were very poor indeed. Cardiff didn't seem up for it 1st half and looked even worse than us. 2nd half was different. Their manager told them to increase the tempo, make it physical and get into Leeds. They murdered us. Quite how we got a draw I dont know.

5 mins into second half Cardiff's pressure paid off and a dodgy penalty cancelled out Walton's 1st half goal. After that our midfield disappeared completely off the radar and Cardiff had all the pressure and chances.

Quite how Blackwell can keep Wright in the team is beyond me. Just what does he have to do to get dropped? Well...he does fuck all in every match. Also Lennon going off meant we lost our most potent weapon so it was a surprise not to see the French lad come on - he's supposed to be fast and tricky.

Spring looked good for the 5 mins he was given and straight away you could see his composure and passing ability.

December 28th 2004 - Leeds United 2 Plymouth 1

We were poor again today especially in the first half. Plymouth had a couple of lads in the middle who passed and moved and caused us a few problems. Its obvious to me that Gregan/Wright/Pugh in the middle 3 just doesn't work. Wright is about as effective as a ghost, Gregan is just a clatter merchant and Pugh hasn't the composure to get the ball down and play in the middle.

So its more and more long ball rubbish - Kelly and Killgallon must have been told to just whack it cos that's all the did. Richardson did try and run with the ball a few times and that caused problems and helped set up the first goal.

2nd half we seemed to raise the tempo and got stuck in in midfield. Still no craft but at least we were twatting them. Without Oster we lost some composure and guile in the middle but Lennon did OK and Healy is always a class act.

When Deane went off Healy moved more into the middle and showed his true class scoring one of the best goals you could ever hope to see and also set up Wright beautifully who hit a post.

Joachim came on and ran his bollocks off and looked worth a starting place. All in all 3 good points when we maybe just deserved the one. Our luck has changed but we, like 90% of the teams in this league, are still very poor.

December 4th 2004 - Leeds United 0 Leicester 2

What a shower of shite we are. Its hard to put into words just how bad we are. Its obvious now that the QPR result was a complete and utter f*cking fluke. Leicester were no better than very ordinary and they managed to get 3 easy points from us.

Everytime we strung 2 or 3 passes together we looked dangerous and Leicester were all over the place. Pity we only did this about 3 times in the whole game and our crap long ball hoof tactics seem to be creeping back in.

Blackwell quite simply has not got a clue. With 4 tough games ahead I dont think he'll survive the year.

Not much chance with either goal.
Awful.
Not a left back.
Getting worse by the week.
Considering he had to hop everywhere he did well.
Out of his depth
Quiet for periods but class on the ball. Beat 2 men and nearly scored
FFS!

Abysmal.
Hardly in the game but showed some touches.
Missed a sitter from 4 yards to make it 1-1

Good run to create Deane's golden chance.

November 24th 2004 - Leeds United 2 Watford 2

Normal service was resumed. Watford were the best side to visit Elland Road this season and that was

without to scorer Webber. We defended poorly and gave them far too much room for the 1st goal and

Gregan's embarrassing pass to Butler gifted them a 2nd. We played some decent stuff and our passing

was reasonably good again. Oster was a bit quieter than against QPR and Healy was out of the action on the left. Having said that we created enough chances to have won the game but a draw was fair.

Get your money on Watford to go up next season - they look good.

Made a couple of decent saves
Poor passing as usual
Quiet game for Danny
All over the place
Did OK and got the goal with a strong header 5 mins from time
Gets better each week - looks fine in a 5 man midfield
Did some nice stuff but ran out of ideas. Needs to stay out wide
Played OK until the suicidal backpass to Butler. Tosser!
Another benefiting from a 5-man midfield, good goal.
Wasted out wide and missed a good chance to put us 2-1 up
Set up the 1st goal but went off injured at half time

Tried hard but rarely got the ball to feet

November 20th 2004 - Leeds United 6 QPR 1 - f*ck me!

Leeds played a fluid 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation with Healy drifting wide on the left but augmenting the attack at the earliest opportunity. Wright was also given licence to push forward.
Before we get too excited I have to say that in 30 years of watching football QPR's defence was quite possibly the worst I have ever seen.

Oster added some balance to the team for the 1st time this season. He put his foot on the ball, beat men, dinked passes and brought others into the game. Wright got forward very well and had a hand in most of the Leeds goals. At last we were playing some football and at times murdered QPR. We also showed plenty of resolve and Gregan and Walton rolled up their sleeves and put themselves about. Healy's intelligent runs meant we didn't half to hoof it up the park everytime, we got wide and crossed the ball in and Deane showed what a handful he can be with some decent crosses.

The crowd loved every minute (well apart from the 1st 2) doing a mexican wave, and chants for Healy, Walton, Pugh and Deane rang out loud!

Picked the ball out of the net and that was it
Solid at the back and did much better going forward
Neat and tidy and after a bad start settled in well
No nonsense but looks a little slow at times
Played very well against his old team - nearly scored a couple
Got better throughout. Won a pen - spat the dummy out when Healy took it
Superb display. Brought some intelligence to the team for the 1st time.
Put himself about and the formation suited him. Passing was poor at times
Touch was crap at times but played much better than of late.
A class player and scored a wonderful lob. Will score plenty for us.
What can you say - the man played a blinder and scared QPR silly.

Didn't do much
No time to make any impact
